Why take a Tasmanian retreat combining yoga, gratitude walking, meditation and happiness training?

Take a blissful break, leave the busyness behind and unwind surrounded by the beauty of Tasmania’s Derwent Valley. This 3-day program will not only leave you feeling calm and relaxed but also rejuvenated and re-energised.

Perhaps the virtue of coming from a place like Tasmania is that you had the great gift of knowing that you were not the centre of things, yet life was no less where you were
Richard Flanagan

Included in the weekend’s program are the popular teachings of Dr Ivan Zwart, Founder of Happy Ground Wellbeing. Ivan has created a specialised program which gives participants knowledge and tools to focus on personal happiness, develop goals for the future, and address busyness and stress. Using yoga, gratitude walking, meditation and tools from psychology and personal development, you get a complete package of practical techniques to improve your energy levels, unwind and regain clarity and control.

Retreat includes:

  • Three nights accommodation at Glen Derwent
  • Delicious locally sourced food
  • Early morning yoga and gratitude walking classes
  • Happiness lessons (broadly from positive psychology)
  • Mindfulness and heart meditation exercises
  • Plenty of time for relaxation

There are also optional massage treatments (not included in the Retreat pricing).

We stay at Glen Derwent, a beautiful peaceful homestead, 35 mins from Hobart.  There are 2 cottages and 5 light filled and comfortable guest rooms (with cosy linen), warm and welcoming accommodation, and a large wood heater for winter.  The homestead is fully self-sufficient, and camping is also available in the beautiful grounds.

Down time can be spent: meditating/contemplating under a tree near the river; walking at Mount Field National Park; relaxing in a hammock; reading on the sunbed; or enjoying breakfast with others, as you take in the stunning views – or simply doing nothing (imagine!).

Who is this retreat for?

Retreat evaluation

Because of Covid-19 we didn’t attempt to run this retreat for a couple of years, however, in late 2021 we had our first retreat at Glen Derwent. The participant in this one-on-one retreat, Miss Longe, had the following to say:

‘I was in the bottom of a dark well, struggling to resurface and find myself. Thoughts that sprouted to mind were clouded by voices of my dear ones. This one-on-one retreat, and my stay at Glen Derwent was just what I needed. I have clarity and have learnt techniques to help me going forward’.
